The Consumption Report for June 2, 2008

art-sd_consumption.jpg

Stealing a little something from Stephen Totilo over at the Multiplayer Blog. He keeps a game diary every week. I like to think on a bigger scale. Without further adieu, welcome to the first issue of The Consumption Report.

  • Finished up Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness. The humor was spot on, but the gameplay itself felt a little repetitive at times. It’s not enough to stop me from picking up Episode 2 when it hits, though.
  • Finally broke 15,000 points with my gamerscore courtesy of the above mentioned game. That trip from 14,000 to 15,000 took months. No idea why.
  • Checked out the new Will Ferrell flick Semi-Pro. It was semi-entertaining. Nothing I’d recommend. Like someone took a Will Ferrell movie, held it upside down, and shook the funny out. There is one good thing to say though — seeing it got me in the loop on an old ABA team named the Virginia Squires. /jersey ordered.
  • The Onion Movie scared the piss out of me. It was really quite good, but in the last 20 seconds there’s a cameo by Rodney Dangerfield. Turns out the movie was made in ‘02, which helped alleviate the brain cramp it gave me. If you like The Onion, worth checking out. Really made me wish these guys had a SNL style sketch show every week.
  • I miss good TV. Stupid summer hiatus isn’t going to offer up much thanks to the writer’s strike. When they should have been crafting these shows they were busting buns to get season finales wrapped up. The only thing I’m watching is Last Comic Standing, and like the last few seasons it seems to be garbage. All of the good comics aren’t even being called back for the same night. So far there’s one person I like still on, and we haven’t even gotten out of the auditions yet.
  • Speaking of TV, I’ve started going through all of the one off shows I’ve had sitting on my PVR for months. Just watched Illicit: The Dark Trade, an HDNet special on the reality behind black market goods. Really liked it. It made me pretty angry about a lot of what’s out there. Definitely one of those things that’ll change the way I live/shop.
  • Ahh! Almost forgot! Got my PS3 back from repair, so I can finally revisit blu-ray village. They sent us out a new one, so the wife and I have restarted our never-ending game of Pixeljunk Monsters. Also received a review copy of SingStar this week. LOVING it. Review should be up on theBBPS.com later today.
  • I tend to listen to Opie and Anthony and Ron and Fez everyday, so you’ll not likely hear much about it in these updates. That being said, this week I discovered the XM show Unmasked. It’s like Inside The Actors Studio, but for comedians. Plus it’s hosted by Ronnie B (of Ron and Fez), easily one of the best interviewers working today. I’ve listened to the Jim Norton and Lewis Black episodes so far (they only do a new one every couple of months). Where else was I going to learn that Lewis Black was an accomplished playwright for most of his life before doing comedy? Next one up is Jay Mohr — and we know I love my Jay Mohr.
  • Sat through the live action Garfield movies with my kid. They’re not actually all that bad.

That about wraps up week one. Amazing that I can do all this and still have the time to neglect my children and not clean the house, nes pas?

DJ Bobo: Vampires Are Alive

I’ve recently been fortunate enough to get a copy of SingStar for my PS3. Review should be going up tomorrow at 3 on thebbps.com if you want an in depth look at what I thought, but that’s not why we’re here today.

Apparently in Europe this song is so big that they thought it had transatlantic legs, as it was included as downloadable content in the US SingStore. That’s right — Europeans love shitty dance music. I know, I’m as shocked as you are.

Come on DJ Bobo, tell us. Are vampires really alive?
