As previously noted a couple of times here on the site I was quite excited about the new HBO/David Milch series “John From Cincinatti” so I figured that I should write up my impressions of the pilot that aired this past Sunday.
Imperial Beach, California is a dying, surfer, border town to Mexico. That’s not to say that everyone who surfs there is dying, although the local legend Mitch Yost thinks he has a brain tumor. You see, Mitch has had the distinct feeling that he is hovering off the ground, his feet dangling maybe a foot above the ground. Turns out that it’s much more than a feeling as his drugged-up, fellow legend Butchie confirms for him that, in fact, he is floating as they are retrieving his mother (and Mitch’s wife) Cissy from jail.

As I write this we’re about 29 hours away from the premiere of the new HBO series John From Cincinnati and I’m totally psyched about it. David Milch’s previous TV effort Deadwood is my favorite show of all time so I’ll pretty much watch anything this guy does.
Though I’m not entirely sure how it happened I received a post card from John reminding me of the premiere. I’m guessing they got my address from when I signed up for the Deadwood email list, but I’m not sure. I guess it’s magic. Check out the card below:
