File this one under so awesome it will make your head explode. Turns out that back in 1998 one Mr. David Hasselhoff starred in the Fox made-for-TV movie Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Yeah - that Nick Fury. The bad ass James Bond meets US Marine in the Marvel Universe Nick Fury. Not only that, but it might have actually been half decent.
Sounds crazy, but here me out: it was written by David S. Goyer — the man behind the pen on such kick ass comic book adaptation as Batman Begins and Blade.
Also — it’s the fucking Hoff.
The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier looks like someone duct-taped a model battleship to four model plane jet engines. Top notch work, fellas. According to wikipedia this beast is actually on display at Monster Records in Toronto — I know where I’m going next time I’m in the big city (though for the life of me I can’t imagine why the boys over at Silver Snail wouldn’t put in an offer to house it at their location).

The promotional advertising used a mirror image, putting the patch on the wrong eye. Always a good sign of marketing integrity;

Believe it or not, there’s a gentleman on sell.com that as of this writing has 13 of these for sale at $7.99 a pop. I’d buy one but I just can’t commit to something so over-the-top with kitsch value. It’s like owning it would make my insides explode with I Like Ike campaign buttons and Keep on truckin’ bumper stickers. It’s just that kitsch.
And to think — now we’re getting Sam Jackson in the same role. It’s times like this I’m glad to be alive.
